Sky Park, Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, the Sports Hub and Bangkok International Airport — these are just a few of the iconic projects that Seow Soon Yong has had a hand in. With hands of steel, this investor has built a strong name for himself in the industry over several decades. But Mr. Yong’s illustrious career isn’t one long streak of successes, but living proof that having clear goals turns obstacles into motivation.

On shaping skylines and success

Mr. Seow started his career with Yongnam Engineering & Construction (Pte) Ltd. in 1978. It was there that he honed his skills and gained experience in project management, general management and marketing. He spearheaded the development of the group’s proprietary Modular Strutting System which was introduced to the industry in 1995. The system continues to play a significant role in providing cost-effective temporary support for deep excavation projects, giving them a competitive edge in meeting increasingly stringent project requirements and design.

Mr. Seow’s leverages his gift of gab in marketing — as a multilingual leader, he was able to gain connections and projects in overseas markets. Some of these projects include the Dubai Metro Rail and Delhi International Airport.

Currently, Mr. Seow is the CEO and Managing Director of the company and a member of the board, which are positions he has held since October of 1994. He was included in the Freshwater Advisers’ list of highest paid CEOs in Singapore for 2013.

Today, Seow Soon Yong continues to bring in good business opportunities for the company as they add steady value to steel in construction. He aims to grow the business as they tackle offshore opportunities in structural steelworks and specialist engineering.

Yongnam

Yongnam Engineering & Construction Pte. Ltd is a structural steel contractor and specialist civil engineering solutions company. They have proven to be a top player in the design, fabrication and erection of structural steelwork, as well as in the supply and installation of temporary structures for civil engineering. They operate in several countries in Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Their reputation of providing innovative, practical and timely solutions to difficult and complex construction challenges has helped to strengthen their brand in other countries outside of Asia, as they have pursued joint ventures in Germany and the UK.

In 2016, Mr. Seow expressed that the company is actively pursuing several infrastructural developments and commercial projects in Singapore.

Trading action

Mr. Seow’s latest trading activities include increasing his direct shares of Yongnam Holdings Ltd. by 4.8 million at SGD 0.21 on January 4, 2017. This was preceded by 10 million direct shares of the same company acquired on October 17, 2016 at SGD 0.21.
